Olympics legacy body faces audit

Regeneration & Renewal, 8 June 2009

An ongoing audit of the London Development Agency is examining the work of its Olympic Legacy Directorate, the LDA has confirmed.

The audit forms part of a wider review of the LDA, which was ordered when Boris Johnson was elected London mayor in 2008.

Set up in 2008, the legacy directorate is responsible for land assembly on the 2012 Olympics site, legacy masterplanning and ensuring that individuals and businesses benefit from the training, jobs and contracts linked to the Games. The body's workload is currently being transferred to a dedicated urban regeneration company, to be headed by US regeneration expert Andrew Altman (R&R, 1 June, p7).

An LDA spokesman said the investigation would help smooth this transitional process.

"Since the new mayor has come in, we have been reviewing governance and procedure across the agency," he said. "We are now looking at the directorate as the final part of that process. This will also help with the preparation for the handover to the legacy company."
