Report demands employment powers for cities

Cities must be given greater freedom to devise localised employment strategies if the Government is serious about tackling worklessness, a report warned this week.

The report by think-tank Centre for Cities says that the Government's centralised, national approach of getting 80 per cent of people into jobs was failing to adequately tackle the problem...
