Residents may get say on funding

Town halls should give local residents an opportunity to vote on how a £1.5 billion fund to tackle worklessness and low levels of enterprise is spent, a Government strategy published this week says.

The participatory budgeting strategy, unveiled by communities secretary Hazel Blears, says that councils "are encouraged to involve local people and businesses in decisions about how funding to meet Working Neighbourhoods...
