Investment from Scotland's economic development agency helped to create ten high growth start-up businesses in 2007/08, according to Scottish Enterprise's annual review. It reveals that the ten firms are forecast to contribute £50-80 million to the economy by their third year of operation. Annual Review 2007/08 is available via www.regen.net/doc
- Birmingham and Warwick universities are to receive £10 million in funding from regional development agency Advantage West Midlands and the European Regional Development Fund. The funding is part of the Birmingham Science City Initiative, which aims to establish the region as an international competitor in the research and development of advanced materials for hi-tech industries.
- A £10 million business support package has been launched by the East of England Development Agency to try to bolster the region's economy. The package will be targeted at start-ups and innovative companies in the biotech, life sciences, manufacturing and low carbon sectors. For further information, visit www.eeda.org.uk
- The regeneration of Liverpool's waterfront will receive a £1.9 million boost from the North-West Regional Development Agency. The funding is for the second phase of the Waterfront Connections project and will be targeted at a programme of infrastructure, environmental and public realm improvements.
