Gainsborough scheme for 2,500 new homes get go-ahead
By Jamie Carpenter Thursday, 09 September 2010
A project to build up to 2,500 new homes to the south of the Lincolnshire town of Gainsborough has been granted planning permission.
West Lindsey District Council granted the Southern Neighbourhood extension plans, which would see an extension to the south of Gainsborough, outline planning permission.
The extension would accommodate up to 2,500 new homes and include employment and retail space. The project is part of West Lindsey District Council’s Growth Point strategy to double the size of the town.
WLDC’s decision to support the application will now be referred to the secretary of state, who has the power to call in the application for further scrutiny.
Phil Roebuck, residential director at real estate adviser DTZ, which advised Thonock and Somerby Estate on the application, said: "These proposals will make a real difference to the town of Gainsborough. The Southern Neighbourhood alone has the potential to increase the present population of 19,000 by 30 per cent."
