Planning, 26 June 2009
RPS has confirmed cuts to its planning team in Manchester despite earlier reports staff would move to Leeds (Planning, 5 June, p2).
Manchester office director Darran Humpheson insisted that the city will retain planning capacity but conceded that staff have been laid off.
Four planners out of six remain at the Princess Street office, but Humpheson confirmed that their positions are under review. He cited redundancies at other RPS offices, but added that there are no plans for mergers.
RPS refused to comment when first asked about job cuts, but Planning has since spoken to several former employees who have been let go. It is understood that cuts were made at the Leeds office at the end of last year, before a review of the planning team in Manchester began.
The outcome of a consultation with the firm's London staff has also not been made public. RPS was unavailable for comment as this issue went to press.
