London Borough of Tower Hamlets
Tower Hamlets is a distinctive, unique London borough that is home to a diverse, multicultural community. We are also one of the host boroughs for the 2012 Olympic Park. As part of an exciting regeneration programme, we aim to improve the quality of life for all that live and work in the area.
Tower Hamlets is becoming a truly Global City-district, attracting 40% of London's commercial development. Our economy already ranks 19th out of 408 local authority areas in terms of economic scale.
The borough is the key economic driver for one of the Government's major growth areas: the Thames Gateway. Targets for growth over the next 10 years include the development of 40,000 new homes and the creation of 150,000 additional jobs.
Working in Tower Hamlets on a growth agenda of this scale will give you the opportunity for experience unrivalled anywhere else in the UK. You will also play a key role in ensuring that development opportunities are harnessed for the benefit of existing residents. In particular ensuring that local people can access new employment and the provision of a 21st Century social infrastructure for all communities (affordable homes, education, health, community and leisure facilities and high quality public spaces). As part of the teams delivering the main venues for the 2012 Olympics there are opportunities to be involved in this exciting project.
In response to this agenda the Council has established a groundbreaking Directorate of Development & Renewal that brings together all aspects of managing the development process. This includes housing, planning, economic development, strategic transport and property functions.
