Tower Hamlets is a distinctive, unique London borough that is home to a diverse, multicultural community. We are also one of the host boroughs for the 2012 Olympic Park. As part of an exciting regeneration programme, we aim to improve the quality of life for all that live and work in the area.

The borough is the key economic driver for one of the Government's major growth areas: the Thames Gateway. Targets for growth over the next 10 years include the development of 40,000 new homes and the creation of 150,000 additional jobs.

In response to this agenda the Council has established a groundbreaking Directorate of Development & Renewal that brings together all aspects of managing the development process. This includes housing, planning, economic development, strategic transport and property functions.
