Dudley Metropolitan Borough Council
Introduction and Mission Statement
In the heart of the Black Country, Dudley borough is experiencing a surge in confidence. With active support from Dudley Council massive new investment promises to reshape the borough, bringing jobs and opportunities.
The borough, one of the largest Local Authorities, is made up of four main towns - Brierley Hill, Dudley, Halesowen and Stourbridge and the council's mission is to make it a high quality place to live, work and spend leisure time.
In Brierley Hill the council has played a key role in developing the Brierley Hill Regeneration Partnership. This public, private and community organisation is looking to channel about £1 billion of investment in to the area over the next 10 years.
In Dudley, we are developing an innovative partnership to deliver the town centre's Area Development Framework which is set to start the renaissance of the town as a great place to live, work, visit and act as the centre of civic life in the borough. In addition we will shortly submit a bid for HLF funding for Townscape Heritage Initiative funding towards an £8million project which will use the town's built heritage as a driver for regeneration activities. Ambitious plans are underway to provide a world class visitor attraction at Wrens Nest National Nature Reserve as the flagship element of the joint Black Country as an Urban Park bid for Living Landmarks:People's Millions funding.
A proposed £30 million scheme to refurbish the Cornbow Centre in Halesowen will bring a major new food store, associated shopping units and new leisure facilities. Plans to create a new bus station will also improve access to the town centre.
An Area Development Framework is well underway for Stourbridge, famous for its high quality glass industry and education provision and the masterplan will draw on these assets, its location and waterside opportunities to promote its development
Employment policies
With 14,000 employees, Dudley Council is one of the largest employers in the area. It has a flexible working policy and is family friendly. Benefits include access to the Local Government Pension Scheme, a relocation package and casual car user allowance. Annual leave depends on grade of post and length of service, plus 11 days statutory/concessionary holidays.
Employment opportunities
Dudley Council is committed to equal opportunities, both as an employer and as a provider of services. The council has a robust equality and diversity policy.
Employment opportunities in regeneration
As a result of the new development planning framework, we have reviewed our way of working and established a unique cross directorate project team to deliver our local development scheme, including action area plans in the borough's town and local centres. Benefits include access to the Local Government Pension Scheme and a relocation package, payment of professional fees and an appropriate car user allowance. Professional planning fees are paid by the council where they are required as an essential part of the job.
