The former boss of government trunk roads body the Highways Agency has been appointed as chief executive of a public body that provides employment opportunities for disabled people.
Work and pensions secretary James Purnell announced today that Tim Matthews will succeed Bob Warner as chief executive of Remploy. His five-year contract will begin on 1 October.
Matthews was chief executive of the Highways Agency from 2000 to 2003. Prior to that, he was chief executive of Guys and St Thomas' NHS Hospital Trust between 1993 and 2000.
Purnell said: "Tim Matthews has a proven track record of managing change within the public sector. I look forward to working with him to provide a more sustainable future for Remploy and to create many more jobs for disabled people."
