Regeneration & Renewal, 9 May 2008
A conference to debate how quality urban design can stimulate the development of socially, economically and environmentally sustainable communities is to take place on 17 June.
The event, entitled Sustainable Regeneration Through Urban Design?, is organised by the Centre for Urban and Regional Studies at Sheffield Hallam University.
In addition to sustainability issues, the conference will examine the factors that can adversely affect the quality of urban design, such as a lack of funding or attention to detail, and explore how practitioners can reconcile a community's aspirations with well-established urban design principles.
Confirmed speakers at the conference include: Jonathan Davis, adviser on architecture, urban design and public space at design watchdog the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment; Jim Fox, director at consultancy Taylor Young and a visiting fellow at Sheffield Hallam; and Jenny Fortune, senior lecturer and specialist in women and sustainable urban design at Sheffield Hallam.
For more information on the conference, debates and speakers, contact Dr Camilla Bassi at Sheffield Hallam University on (email) c.bassi@shu.ac.uk.
