2012 advisory board 'to be announced next month'

Tamar Wilner, Regen.net, 21 August 2008

Appointments to an Olympic legacy advisory board will be announced next month, Regen.net has learned.

A spokesman for London mayor Boris Johnson said that the appointments to the advisory board would likely be announced early in September.

Johnson proposed setting up the advisory board or working group in June, in response to a report by his adviser David Ross.

Ross, a co-founder of the Carphone Warehouse chain, said plans to build 4,000 homes in east London¹s Olympic Park were at "major risk" due to the credit crunch (Regen.net, 18 June).

In June, Johnson also backed proposals for a public-private vehicle to ensure that the London 2012 Olympics leave a regeneration legacy.

The regeneration vehicle would oversee issues such as job creation and home building, and would replace the London Development Agency's (LDA) legacy directorate.

But the LDA's legacy director Tom Russell said that the vehicle would not be ready to launch in September. It must first go through a consultation, which has not yet begun.
