Double East London's 2012 budget, says IOC

The UK government should spend twice the amount of Olympic money on East London than currently planned, according to a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

Alex Gilardy of the IOC told BBC news last night: "The budget for the East End - of London should double if you ask me.
 
"Whatever you spend will stay with London for the next 100 years," he added.
 
The current budget for the 2012 games stands at £9.3bn. The Chinese government has spent £22.6bn on the current Olympiad, according to the BBC.
 
Olympics minister Tessa Jowell said: "The budget cannot be exceeded because there is no more money. If we have to find more money for a particular aspect of the programme then savings will have to affected elsewhere."
