By far the hottest topic at this year's annual Regeneration & Renewal Northern Regeneration Conference, held this week at the impressive Magna Centre in Rotherham, was whether or not councils can genuinely cooperate with each other and form real partnerships to tackle long-term problems.

Rebecca McKellar, 25, is a geoenvironmental scientist with the land regeneration consultancy Leyden Kirby Associates. Her job involves investigating the state of land due for development, undertaking risk assessments, supervising investigations, managing projects and writing reports for planning applications.
