Steve Laking has been promoted to managing partner by consultancy ERM. He was previously managing partner of the firm's contaminated sites management practice in the UK. Before that, Laking held the same post at ERM's office in Sydney, Australia.
Appointment at Newcastle City Council

Marie Fallon has been appointed director of regeneration by Newcastle City Council. She was previously director of environment at Cheltenham Borough Council and assistant director of regeneration at Birmingham City Council. Fallon replaces Steve Dunlop, who left Newcastle City Council last year to become Scotland director at British Waterways.
Appointment at RPS Planning

Louise Graham has been recruited as a senior planner by RPS Planning in Liverpool. She was previously an area planning officer at Halton Borough Council. Chris Smith has joined the Liverpool office as an associate director and Nicole Johnson has been appointed as a senior planner by RPS in Manchester.

Robert Buckley has joined Hepher Dixon as a senior planner. He previously worked for the London Borough of Lambeth. Kay Collins has joined the company as a senior planner. She previously worked for Surrey Heath Borough Council.
Appointment at DLA Piper

Julie Morrisey has moved from law firm DLA Piper in Birmingham to join the practice's Sheffield-based engineering and construction group. Morrisey, who has also been promoted to associate, will work on development and regeneration projects. She has worked in the Birmingham office for the past four years.
Appointment at Knight Frank LLP

Nigel Abbott has joined Knight Frank LLP as an associate partner in the practice's London planning team. Abbott was previously employed by Dalton Warner Davies, where he was an associate.
