Edinburgh and Aberdeen will be the first recipients of cash to build facilities for Glasgow's 2014 Commonwealth Games, the Scottish Government has announced. A total of £5 million will be allocated to Aberdeen City Council for its proposed 50-metre swimming pool. Edinburgh City Council will receive £1 million towards the refurbishment of the Royal Commonwealth Pool, which will be the Games' diving venue.

Skanska wins contract from Minerva

Construction group Skanska has won a contract worth £150 million from property developer Minerva to build its St Botolph's project in the City of London. The 52,000 sq-metre development, which Minerva said is due to be completed in 2010, is one of three sites shortlisted by media firm News International for its new headquarters.

Worcester City Football Club signs deal to sell ground

Worcester City Football Club have signed a deal to sell their ground to developer Careys New Homes. The sale of the 1.7ha site, which has been the club's home for 102 years, will release funds to help pay for the club's planned relocation to a new 6,000-seater stadium, which is part of a proposed 8ha mixed-use development at Nunnery Way.

A £190-million, three-year funding programme to create facilities for young people's activities has been launched by good causes distributor the Big Lottery Fund. The BLF will make grants of between £1 million and £5 million as part of the programme, Myplace. The BLF has also announced a shortlist of 37 projects for its £30 million Community Assets programme, which aims to help voluntary groups renovate the buildings they use.
