Shopping space on the edge of city centres

More than half of the shopping space to be built in the next decade will be on the edge of city centres, a retail property association predicts. A British Council of Shopping Centres study says that most of this new space will be taken up by retail parks, grocery stores and superstores. The study is available via www.regen.net/doc.

Innovations - Informal project to unlock business skills

Enterprise Island is a course intended to help would-be entrepreneurs realise their potential in an "un-stuffy" learning environment. It is run by former teacher Iain Scott in various UK locations. In February, a course specially designed for 16 to 30-year-olds was offered to young people in the North-East through a partnership with regional development agency One North-East. The course has been run in partnership with various public bodies, from small local authorities to city councils and regional development agencies. Iain Scott answers our panel's questions:
