A £25 million deal to develop a 600-room student block near Birmingham city centre has been agreed by regional development agency Advantage West Midlands and developer Watkin Jones. The 11-floor building, to be built at Jennens Road in Eastside, will contain 128 flats and potentially a dance studio and shops. A planning application has been submitted and work will start later this year subject to approval.

Retail trends in Perth city centre over the past 15 years have been studied by Bidwells. The firm's Perth office looked at changes between 1991 and 2006 and found that the shop vacancy rate stands at only 6.5 per cent, lower than the figure of 9.5 per cent found in the survey five years ago.
