South-West Regional Development allocates

The South-West Regional Development Agency has allocated £600,000 to support a range of projects aimed at stimulating economic activity in and around the region's national parks. They include a project to boost wood production on Exmoor, a study into raising more income from Dartmoor's hay meadows, and a scheme to build low-level wind turbines and a water power generator.

Sunderland City Council and Akeler close to finalising a deal

Sunderland City Council and business park developer Akeler are close to finalising a deal to build a £60 million office complex for financial company Northern Rock. The 37,160m2 complex will be situated at Rainton Bridge, one of Sunderland's largest business park developments. It will provide 3,500 jobs. The premises will be built in two phases, with construction work on the first scheduled to begin early next year.
