A scheme to regenerate Anfield and Brockfield in Liverpool moved a step closer this week when the ODPM confirmed that plans would not be called in for review. Liverpool City Council said that a new 60,000-seat stadium for Liverpool FC will form the heart of the area's regeneration strategy, and will accommodate a community resource centre in one of its stands, providing local recreation and education facilities. The existing Anfield football stadium will be redeveloped and renamed Anfield Plaza, the council announced. It said that the plaza development will offer retail, office, residential, community and hotel uses, along with new public space.

The Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment is concerned that the Granby Halls scheme contains too much accommodation for the site. It also raised concerns about proposals for Leicester Tigers' mixed-use stadium proposals in the city.
