Regeneration News brief: Open day for former RAF Locking site takes place

An open day on redevelopment plans for the former RAF Locking site in Weston-super-Mare took place last week. Hundreds of residents and businesses were able to air their opinions on their preferred form of development at the 81ha site. South West of England Regional Development Agency development manager Chris Foley said: "This has been a great start to encourage a mix of employment, housing and community uses on the site."

A prominent residential and office development in St Mary's Gate has been granted planning permission by Sheffield City Council. Permission was originally granted for the city centre scheme last year to provide flats in a 19-storey tower with a seven-storey office block on the corner of St Mary's Gate and Moore Street. But an amended application was submitted after reappraisal of costs by the applicants. The latest application is for 205 flats and an additional floor on the tower.

A state-of-the-art skatepark in central Manchester was opened last week. The park, on London Road beneath the Mancunian Way, includes a series of pipes and flat banks set in a replica street environment, although it is located away from residential areas. The skatepark cost £75,000 and was designed by consultancy Fearless, which drew up the proposal in consultation with skateboarders. It will be managed by Manchester City Council's leisure department.
