The study, by ECOTEC Research and Consulting, found that the programme has helped to reduce unemployment from 26 to five per cent. It has also raised social, economic, living and environmental conditions in Castle Vale, the report concludes. Castle Vale is home to 9,000 people and is the largest post-war estate in the city. Birmingham City Council ran the estate until 1993, when the HAT acquired the land.

13 August 2004
Cambridge Econometrics has published its latest edition of Regional Economic Prospects. The document contains detailed macroeconomic and industrial forecasts to the year 2015 in the UK's regions. Strongest performance is expected in Wales and Yorkshire and Humberside, based on their sharp improvement in consumer service and manufacturing combined with continuing strong growth in construction. London and the South East are expected to feature among the fastest-growing regions. Employment in the South East has continued to increase while earnings have also grown strongly, reflecting the region's tight labour market. Scotland's growth is expected to be slightly slower than the UK average.

The warehouses are listed buildings in the canal basin and the upper floors have already been converted into flats.
