BUSINESS BRIEF: PMP appointed to carry out feasibility study

PMP has been appointed to carry out a feasibility study into rebuilding Herne Bay Pier by Canterbury City Council. The study will examine opportunities for commercial uses on the pier including a casino, a hotel, bars and restaurants. It will also study the possibility of a high-speed boat service to London as well as other development opportunities in the area. The last pier on the site collapsed in 1987. PMP's team includes property consultancy Donaldsons, Marks Barfield Architects and structural engineer Yolles.

Darren Shorter has been appointed as an associate director in urban design by Terence O'Rourke. He joins from Southampton City Council, where he held the post of principal urban designer in the development team. Shorter has also worked at Latham Architects and Dudley Metropolitan Borough Council.

European research consultancy Ecotec, which is helping regional development agency Advantage West Midlands with its cluster action plan, has appointed two new board members. Clare Johnson (left), based in the Leeds office, has been promoted to director, with responsibility for developing the northern market. Pat Irving, based in the Birmingham office, will head up the employment and labour markets team.
