Deputy prime minister John Prescott unveiled his progress report on the northern urban renaissance and Newcastle's Grainger Town won the top prize in the RTPI's annual awards. There, with perfect timing, the cup-winning project demonstrated how a six-year programme can revive a rundown city quarter. The firm will carry out site inspections and consult with transport professionals, planners, the council and the public. It will then develop the plans, which will cover strategic and local transport issues such as public transport, cycling, freight, pedestrian movements and traffic. The plans will inform local transport plan development.
