Construction work has started on a £5.5 million office workspace for small businesses at Bedford. The i-Lab, which will cover over 3,000sq metres, is being constructed as part of a joint initiative by the East of England Development Agency (EEDA) and Bedford Borough Council and should be completed by the end of the year. The i-Lab is intended particularly for high-tech businesses, including the information and communications and advanced engineering sectors. It will contain room for as many as 140 firms. EEDA chairman Richard Ellis said: "In recent times there's been a lack of high-quality business units in Bedford". The regional development agency has provided £4 million for the project.
