An online resource for developers and planners in the South-West has been launched by the South-West of England Regional Development Agency. The South-West Sustainability Checklist for Developments aims to speed up the assessment and approval of planning applications by enabling developers and planning authorities to assess the sustainability of designs for proposed mixed-use and housing schemes.

Appointment at English Partnerships' National Consultancy Unit

Fiona Piercy has been promoted to lead national regeneration agency English Partnerships' National Consultancy Unit (NCU). The unit provides specialist support to the agency's regional teams where there is a project of particular complexity. In her previous position, Piercy led on major regeneration initiatives in North Staffordshire and Warwickshire. In two further appointments to the NCU, Jill Channer joins on secondment from the Prince's Regeneration Trust, which works to save redundant historically or architecturally significant buildings, as heritage policy adviser, and Bruce Edgar joins on secondment from educational charity the Prince's Foundation for the Built Environment to work on the urban design team.

Burnley College wins Campus funding

The Northwest Regional Development Agency has pledged £10 million for a new campus at Burnley College to catalyse regeneration in the area. The University of Central Lancashire has also announced the success of its bid for £10 million from the Higher Education Funding Council for England to set up operations in Burnley.
