A group of local teachers, parents and activists have set up a protest camp on the site of a proposed new city academy in north-west London.

Atkins appointed by Peterborough city council

Consultancy Atkins has been appointed to provide transport and engineering consultancy services across Peterborough by the city council. Under the five-year contract, Atkins will work with the council to plan, design and supervise the construction of major transport projects.

Shopping space on the edge of city centres

More than half of the shopping space to be built in the next decade will be on the edge of city centres, a retail property association predicts. A British Council of Shopping Centres study says that most of this new space will be taken up by retail parks, grocery stores and superstores. The study is available via www.regen.net/doc.

Innovations - Informal project to unlock business skills

Enterprise Island is a course intended to help would-be entrepreneurs realise their potential in an "un-stuffy" learning environment. It is run by former teacher Iain Scott in various UK locations. In February, a course specially designed for 16 to 30-year-olds was offered to young people in the North-East through a partnership with regional development agency One North-East. The course has been run in partnership with various public bodies, from small local authorities to city councils and regional development agencies. Iain Scott answers our panel's questions:
