The Corporation of London is set to encourage more shops in the City after consultants identified a need for a greater range of goods. The planning authority's draft core strategy encourages more shops in five areas and seeks to improve the links between them following a retail study carried out by CB Richard Ellis. But the corporation acknowledged that "careful management" would be needed to boost weekend shopping, given this is when construction and servicing is encouraged.

Design Review West Midlands has been set up to plug the gaps in design advice for developers within local authorities. But Midlands Architecture and Design Environment stressed that the panel, based on the Commission of Architecture and Built Environment model, "is not the style police".
