Disused warehouse bought by Advantage West Midlands

A disused warehouse in Small Heath, Birmingham, has been bought by regional development agency Advantage West Midlands as part of a £4 million employment scheme. The agency plans to remediate the site and sell it to the private sector. It is the second piece of land bought by AWM to be developed for employment use in the East Birmingham North Solihull Regeneration Zone.

Advantage West Midlands announces funding

Regional development agency Advantage West Midlands has announced £750,000 of funding to continue a programme that helps retrain thousands of workers faced with redundancy. Gateway awards contract to Hobson and Porter

Hull housing market renewal pathfinder Gateway has awarded a contract to refurbish hundreds of homes in the city's Newington and St Andrew's areas to local contractor Hobson and Porter. Under the £4 million contract, the firm will give 370 privately owned homes an external facelift.

Appointment at Jones Lang LaSalle

Mike Taylor has joined consultancy Jones Lang LaSalle as associate director in its development and asset strategy team. Based in Birmingham, he will help develop and deliver town planning services for the Midlands. Taylor has worked for Birmingham City Council's planning team for the last ten years.

Atlantic Quay phase

Glasgow councillors have approved the last phase of the Atlantic Quay development in the city's financial services district. The plan, which includes a public piazza, involves the erection of a 12-storey office block between York Street and Robertson Street. Developers Wilson Bowden are also planning offices at the adjacent Atlantic Square site.

Rural planning policies need to be embedded in the West Midlands rural delivery framework to bring forward more affordable homes in the region, says a report by the West Midlands Rural Affairs Forum. It argues that a lack of policies for rural locations saw only 2,330 affordable homes come forward between 2004 and 2005. This falls below the required annual rate of 6,750 homes.
