Project awarded to deliver Decent Homes scheme in Hull

A £189 million project to deliver a Decent Homes scheme in Hull has been awarded by the city council to contractors Kier Building Maintenance, Connaught Partnerships and Kingstown Works, a council-controlled firm formed by its building services division. The aim of the investment is to ensure that all the city's 28,000 council homes are safe, warm and have modern facilities by 2011.

Regeneration agency bosses in north Northamptonshire are working up plans for a new eco-town in the region. Bob Lane, chief executive of North Northants Development Company, said they were considering bidding to be part of the Government's recently announced "eco-towns" programme, which is backed with a £2 million fund.

It says office space in London's West End can cost £1,364 annually per sq metre - a third more than the next most expensive world city: Tokyo.
