Innovations - Women-only project has business aims

Heba is a women-only training and enterprise project run by the Spitalfields Small Business Association (SSBA) that gives women from diverse cultural backgrounds the chance to learn new skills and gain entrepreneurial experience. Training programmes include courses in English, art and textile design, sewing and garment production, and computer training. Courses are taught at a variety of levels and all lead to nationally recognised qualifications. Participants can go on to make clothes for Heba's enterprise group, which takes limited production run commissions from local designers. Heba also offers a small number of subsidised workspaces for women to start their own businesses, and free creche spaces for trainees' children. SSBA director Kay Jordan answers our panel's questions.
