Appointment at Charity Volunteering England

Charity Volunteering England has promoted James Collins to the newly-created post of quality and accreditation manager. Collins was previously regional development officer at the organisation.
Appointment at Advantage West Midlands

Two new directors have been appointed to join the corporate management team at regional development agency Advantage West Midlands. Mark Pearce has been promoted to corporate director for economic regeneration, and Tim Gebbels becomes corporate director for strategy and communications. Pearce was previously partnerships director at AWM, and Gebbels was previously chief executive of regional data provider the West Midlands Regional Observatory.

Holt Town Waterfront

A development framework for a mixed-use scheme in east Manchester has been endorsed by the city council. The plans are for the 28ha Holt Town Waterfront site to be regenerated over the next 15 years into a residential quarter with businesses, shops and bars.
Dundee research programme

A medical research and manufacturing programme is to be set up in Dundee thanks to £1.2 million of Regional Selective Assistance funding from the Scottish Executive. The Intermediate Technology Institute Life Sciences Stem Cell Research project will employ up to 75 staff, the Executive said.
