The second reading of the Greater London Authority Bill was passed by MPs this week, with a 169 majority in favour of devolving powers from Whitehall to City Hall. The bill will see more planning and housing powers for London mayor Ken Livingstone. A DCLG consultation paper on city development companies was also published this week to bring the private and public sectors together to boost economic development across city-regions.

Broadway Malyan has been appointed to deliver a vision for Irwell City Park as part of the second stage of an application to the Big Lottery Fund Living Landmarks programme. One of 23 shortlisted UK projects, the scheme aims to revitalise the River Irwell and create a vibrant urban park, running through Salford, Manchester and Trafford. The project will be driven by Broadway Malyan's urbanism team, working with Art2Architecture. Other key consultants include Gifford, Davis Langdon LLP and Andrew McCarthy Associates.

White Young Green has integrated teams at larger offices due to the continuing expansion of its London region portfolio and the growth of its multidisciplinary services. Consultants from Jessop House in Croydon and the environmental team at Yeoman House in Penge have moved to a large refurbished office at Sunley House in Croydon that is now the company's largest multidisciplinary office in the South East. It houses a 140-strong team working on environmental, civil, structural, rail, management, mechanical and electrical projects.
