Government announces provisional payments

The Government has announced provisional payments of £28.8 million to enable regional planning bodies and local planning authorities in England to improve their planning services. The 2007-08 Planning Delivery Grant cash also includes funding of £100,000 for each of nine local authorities participating in housing market renewal projects. Urban Splash and Priority Sites awarded contract

Developers Urban Splash and Priority Sites are to create 10,700 sq metres of business space on a 31ha former tannery site after they were awarded a contract by the South-West of England Regional Development Agency. Both firms hope to be able to start construction in late spring next year, with the first buildings ready for occupation by the end of 2007.

Rachel Hassett has been appointed as a planner and Duncan Gregory as a graduate planner by CB Richard Ellis (CBRE) in Manchester. Hassett previously worked for CBRE in Birmingham. Gregory was previously a planning officer in the planning implementation team at Derby City Council.

White Young Green has integrated teams at larger offices due to the continuing expansion of its London region portfolio and the growth of its multidisciplinary services. Consultants from Jessop House in Croydon and the environmental team at Yeoman House in Penge have moved to a large refurbished office at Sunley House in Croydon that is now the company's largest multidisciplinary office in the South East. It houses a 140-strong team working on environmental, civil, structural, rail, management, mechanical and electrical projects.

Replacement housing figures for Northampton issued for consultation

Replacement housing figures for Northampton in the draft East Midlands regional spatial strategy have been issued for consultation. The proposals recommend that 31,500 homes should be built between 2001 and 2021 in the Northampton implementation area and a further 8,875 between 2021 and 2026. These replace figures that were quashed by the High Court in January due to an error by the secretary of state.

Portland Square set for a revamp

Bristol's Portland Square is set for a £10 million revamp after the city council approved the scheme. CSJ Planning Consultants and Narracott Oxford Mills Architects secured planning permission last week to convert and restore 31 and 32 Portland Square on behalf of site owner D&J Singh. The plans also include redeveloping land at the rear of the site into 62 flats and a shop. Work is due to start by next summer.

New World Square project on Princes Dock approved this week

The New World Square project on Princes Dock in Liverpool was approved by the city council planning committee this week. The £130 million mixed-use scheme, designed by John Lyall, will feature 362 flats, a five-star hotel, a spa, offices, restaurants, shops, a public piazza and a rooftop observatory. Developer Lead Asset Strategies is likely to start work early next year.
