Innovations: Scheme gets homeless on rental ladder

A new scheme to help homeless people and those living in temporary housing access private sector rented accommodation has been set up by Sheffield City Council. The Private Rented Solutions project is intended to provide settled housing for the priority homeless, most of whom are families. Under the scheme, prospective tenants are entitled to financial assistance to meet initial costs - such as a deposit - associated with accessing the private rental market. Private Rented Solutions project manager Chris Hood answers our panel's questions.

Gloucester Heritage URC plans to renew seven key sites

A £1 billion programme to deliver 3,000 homes, 2,000 jobs and office and retail facilities in Gloucester was formally launched this week. Gloucester Heritage Urban Regeneration Company (URC) plans to renew seven key sites in the city centre, including Gloucester Docks and King's Square. The URC also hopes to improve access into and around the city and create a landmark bridge spanning the Gloucester and Sharpness Canal. Investment of £150 million is coming from the public sector and £100 million from the private sector.
Appointment at Kier Group

Simon Bullen has been appointed by construction contractor Kier Group as operations director of its public sector housing operation in Leeds: Kier Building Maintenance Leeds. He is already operations director for Kier Sheffield, a partnership with Sheffield City Council. Bullen will now oversee repairs and maintenance for 24,000 homes in Leeds and 50,000 properties in Sheffield.
