Retirement at Birmingham City Council

David Pywell has retired from Birmingham City Council, where he was strategic director of development. He had a key role in projects such as the New University Hospital, the Bullring and the city's first transport strategy for more than 80 years.
Final shortlist for Stratford City project

Two developers have made the final shortlist for the £4 billion Stratford City project. Bouygues with Barratt Homes and a Lend Lease-led team including East Thames Group and First Base will go forward to the next stage. The developers are vying to deliver the London 2012 Olympic athletes' village and most of the housing, commercial and hotel developments. The retail-led part of the scheme is being developed by Westfield. London & Continental Railways and the Olympic Delivery Authority will announce the winner within the next two months.

The team behind a project to create a city park along the River Irwell in Salford is calling for international architects, landscape designers and engineers to help. The Irwell City Park proposal is one of 23 projects shortlisted by the Big Lottery Fund Living Landmarks programme. Salford and Manchester City Councils, Central Salford Urban Regeneration Company and Trafford Metropolitan Borough Council want design experts to develop the plans into an unrivalled design proposition for the final application, which is due to be submitted next May.

Improvements to a Nottingham shopping street is under way

Improvements to a Nottingham shopping street are under way to make it safer for locals. The city council is investing £200,000 to regenerate Broxtowe Lane. The work, which is expected to be completed before Christmas, includes upgrading street furniture such as litter bins, improving a pedestrian crossing, installing bollards and closed-circuit television coverage and enhancing street lighting.
Envirolink Northwest commissions TEP

The market for environmental technologies and services that may arise from regeneration of land in the North West is to be assessed by TEP. The consultancy has been commissioned by Envirolink Northwest to look at prospects for the market over the next decade. It will canvass the views of the managers of major regeneration programmes such as the Northwest Development Agency, English Partnerships and housing market renewal teams. The study, supported by the Environment Agency, aims to stimulate the regional environmental technology sector. It is due to be completed in November.
