Appointment at Southampton City Council

Andy Scate has been appointed head of planning and sustainability by Southampton City Council. He was previously development services manager at Buckinghamshire County Council. Scate was also strategic planning adviser to local delivery vehicle Aylesbury Vale Advantage.

Public consultation on City of London to begin in September

Public consultation on City of London conservation area boundaries will begin in September. Twenty-six conservation areas cover around a third of the City. Another four are being proposed while others are being lined up for de-designation because the corporation argues that they no longer contribute to the City's historic character.

An exhibition of plans for Durham city centre up to 2020 opened last week. The masterplan, which will be on display in Durham and at regional development agency One NorthEast offices in Newcastle, will run until 13 October. The vision looks at how Durham can realise its full economic potential while retaining its heritage and historic character. It envisages improving the range of shops and leisure and entertainment facilities, looking at the future of the city's university and the development of iconic buildings.
