Here in Caerphilly we are discovering how easy it is to meet brownfield housing targets these days. As the surge in house prices radiates out of Cardiff, adjacent authorities with a declining manufacturing base are finding brownfield sites popping up all over the place as non-residential landowners seek to capitalise on high housing land prices. It is not so easy in mainly rural areas without a reservoir of former industrial sites, a fact that regional policy-makers and those who simplistically compare performance between authorities need to bear in mind.

Countryside Properties submits plans for Salford

Detailed plans for the first phase of Lower Broughton's regeneration have been submitted by Countryside Properties. The first phase of the scheme in Salford will feature the construction of more than 430 homes together with commercial and retail space. The proposal also includes traffic calming measures, extensive landscaping work and 3.5ha of open space. The submission is the culmination of two years' work between the developer, Salford City Council, Contour Housing and the local community.
