Birthday girl skips the welcome party

The guests - 80 assorted urban movers and shakers, including big city council leaders and CEOs, as well as major private sector players like Urban Splash - arrived reverently in the Tate Modern's giant Turbine Hall before being ushered upstairs to a conference room with a panoramic view of the City of London skyline.

Belfast city centre has been earmarked for a major revamp, it emerged as Regeneration & Renewal went to press. Northern Ireland social development minister David Hanson said the scheme, which would cost £14 million, would be complete by October 2009. He added that a design competition is to be run for a separate revamp of the city's Donegall Square.
