A £20 million strategy to rebrand North Staffordshire as one of Europe's greenest urban areas was launched last week. The Greening for Growth strategy will focus on key transport corridors, establishing green routes and rejuvenating open spaces. The award followed a check-up on the borough's Pollards Hill district to judge whether the cleanliness of the area had been sustained over a six-month period after a spring clean-up.

MOVES: 21 appointments at DTI

The Department of Trade and Industry last week announced 21 new appointments to the boards of seven of the regional development agencies (RDAs). The posts require a commitment of two days a month. New Advantage West Midlands board members are Julie Haney, David Smith, Roger Lawrence and Michael Oakes. The East of England Development Agency will see Patricia Holtom, John Snyder, Karen Livingstone and Tim Wilson join its board. Dave McCall and Joe Dwek are to become members of the North-West Development Agency board, while John Cuthbert joins One NorthEast. Phil Wood, Rob Anderson and Peter Jones are new members of the South East England RDA board, with Catherine Bakewell, Duncan Hames and Christine Reid taking posts on the South-West RDA board. Yorkshire Forward's new members are Stella Guy, Bob Boucher, Nicholas Dakin and John Spencer.

STOP PRESS: URC Hull Citybuild executive leaves

The chief executive of urban regeneration company (URC) Hull Citybuild is to leave the organisation to take up a role at government regeneration agency English Partnerships (EP). Neil Bradbury is to join EP early in the new year as regional director for the North-East and Yorkshire and Humber regions. Bradbury successfully led Hull's bid for URC status and has been chief executive there since July 2002. The search for Bradbury's successor will start immediately.
