NEWS BRIEF: Development in Blackpool set to go ahead

A hotel and office development in Blackpool is set to go ahead following the announcement of a £7.8 million funding deal by the North-West Development Agency. The Central Gateway deal, which includes £4 million from the European Regional Development Fund and £2.5 million from Blackpool Borough Council, is intended to boost tourism and businesses in the area.

John McGuire has been appointed chairman of the North-West Development Agency's Alliance for Skills and Productivity, an initiative intended to raise productivity and economic competitiveness in the region. McGuire has had a long career in the banking sector and been involved in regeneration in the North-West for the last 15 years. He chairs a variety of business support organisations.

Cornish urban regeneration company CPR Regeneration has appointed an urban design manager to raise design standards in Camborne, Falmouth and Redruth. Tim Kellett was formerly a project officer for the Falmouth Heritage Economic Regeneration Scheme and Penryn Townscape Heritage Initiative. Prior to that he worked at Nottingham City Council as an urban design and conservation team leader.
