South-West opens infrastructure fund

An £80 million fund intended to allow infrastructure costs for key regeneration projects to be paid upfront and recouped later from developer contributions was opened for business this week by the South-West of England Regional Development Agency.

Ferry fares for routes between the Scottish mainland and the Outer Hebrides will be cut by up to a half from October to make them more affordable for firms, tourists and islanders, the Scottish Government said last week. Under a pilot running until spring 2011, ferry users will be charged a rate based on the cost of travelling an equivalent distance by road.
