A Scottish Government task force will examine ways to speed up housing developments by reducing planning delays. The Housing Supply Task Force, set up last year, will also look at tackling local opposition to proposed developments.

The number of empty homes in England has risen for the first time in nine years, according to figures published by campaigning charity the Empty Homes Agency. The number of empty homes is 672,924: an increase of nearly 10,000 over the last year. Leeds and Liverpool have seen some of the biggest rises. The statistics are available via www.regen.net/doc.
