North-East England exported over £1 billion more in 2007 than the previous year, HM Revenue & Customs statistics reveal. The total value of goods exported from the region rose from £8.5 billion in 2006 to £9.5 billion in 2007. Nationally, total exports fell from £244 billion to £219 billion.
Financial and professional services NW's biggest growers

The financial and professional services sector has experienced the biggest jobs growth over the past decade of any sector in North-West England, a study by Manchester Metropolitan University reveals. The report found that 428,000 people worked in the sector in 2007, up from 315,000 in 1997. The report is available via www.regen.net/doc.

Two men arrested in police probe into fraud allegations

Two men were arrested in London this week in connection with a police probe into fraud allegations concerning six organisations that received funding from the London Development Agency. A spokeswoman for the Metropolitan Police said that it also carried out searches at residential addresses in connection with the investigation.
