Business rates would be cut for Welsh firms that contribute to their local communities under plans put forward last week by the Welsh Assembly Government. The Wag is to consult on expanding its business rate relief scheme, which it says would be worth up to £7 million a year from 2009 to firms that make local social or economic contributions.
Taskforce for redundant workers to be created

A taskforce will be created to support workers who will lose their jobs when food and drinks firm Cadbury Schweppes closes its factory at Keynsham, near Bristol, the South-West of England Regional Development Agency announced last week. The agency said the taskforce would help staff retrain, find jobs and set up businesses.
