Glenn Howells win competition

Glenn Howells Architects has won an international competition run by the Royal Institute of British Architects to design part of a regeneration scheme to revive the centre of Stoke-on-Trent. The firm's proposals include widening Market Square to provide a green terraced amphitheatre and promoting pedestrian accessibility by creating a shared space for vehicles and pedestrians.
John Laing development partner

Housing contractor and developer the John Laing Partnership has been named as development partner for the construction of 83 mixed-tenure homes in south London. The contract from housing association Amicus Horizon covers the Inglewood Crowndale site in South Norwood. A grant has been secured from social homes agency the Housing Corporation to enable the development of 30 homes for social rent and ten for shared ownership.
Newport selects venture

Urban regeneration company Newport Unlimited has selected a joint venture between support services provider Alfred McAlpine and hotel developer New World Leisure as its preferred developer for a hotel scheme in the Welsh town. The partnership has secured a franchise to develop and operate a 124-bed hotel at Old Town Dock.
Taylor Woodrow contract

Building firm Taylor Woodrow Construction has won a contract to complete a mixed-use development in the centre of Glasgow. As part of the firm's Anderston Centre project, Taylor Woodrow will build a 21-storey apartment block on Argyle Street. The building will include 122 flats and 8,900sq metres of office space.
