Umbrella body The Social Enterprise Coalition has named Claire Dove as its new chair. Dove will replace Baroness Thornton. Dove is chief executive of Blackburne House, which runs Merseyside social enterprises providing career opportunities for women in sectors usually staffed by men, such as construction and IT.

Appointment at Advantage West Midlands

Regional development agency Advantage West Midlands has appointed Mick Laverty as chief executive. Laverty is currently AWM's deputy chief executive with responsibility for projects and programmes including major land and property developments. Laverty will succeed John Edwards who stands down in April next year, after eight years in charge.

Appointment at Business Link

Deborah Wharton has been appointed chief executive of local enterprise support service Business Link for Milton Keynes, Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire. She will replace Graeme Finch. Wharton was formerly area director for Milton Keynes, Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Berkshire for the South-East England Development Agency.

Campaign body the UK Green Building Council has appointed Jeremy Sumeray as director of strategy. Sumeray joins from building materials group Lafarge. He was recently seconded to the Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform to lead its sustainable construction strategy.

Appointment at the Empty Homes Agency

Charity the Empty Homes Agency has appointed Henry Oliver as policy adviser to help councils bring empty homes back into use. Oliver was formerly head of regeneration and localism at think-tank the New Economics Foundation.

Appointment at Wolverhampton Development Company

Urban regeneration company Wolverhampton Development Company has appointed Will Evans as director of development. The chartered architect joins from URC the Walsall Regeneration Company. In his new role, Evans will focus on building partnerships to spearhead the town's regeneration.
