Final votes being counted in referendum

The final votes were being counted in the referendum for a North-East regional assembly as Regeneration & Renewal went to press. Press reports say that total turnout in the referendum will reach 40 per cent, with 714,473 ballot envelopes already received, a response of 37.6 per cent. The result is expected to be close.
