Gateshead bridge scoops German award

The Gateshead Millennium Bridge, a former winner of the Stirling Prize for architecture, was this week awarded another prestigious award. The bridge (above) has been given the Baltahaser Neumann Prize by the League of German Master Builders, Architects and Engineers and the German building magazine Deutsche Bauzeitung. The prize is awarded every two years and is given to projects which demonstrate "creative collaboration". It is named after the architect Johann Balthaser Neumann, who is credited with creating some of the finest German baroque buildings of the 18th century.
£80m housing bid for centre of Sunderland
