Jeremy Pinington has been appointed to head the UK and Ireland design and supervision teams at WSP. He was previously deputy director of infrastructure research and development at TRL.

Ian Gallacher has been appointed as a planning consultant by Mappin Planning and Development in Glasgow. He previously worked for GVA Grimley. Peter Carus, a graduate of Dundee University, has joined as a planning consultant.

Richard Serra has been promoted to associate in the planning and regeneration team at GVA Grimley. He was previously a principal planner. Serra will advise on brownfield land assembly and compulsory purchase. He previously worked as a senior planner for Cushman and Wakefield Healey and Baker. Madeleine Cole has been promoted to senior planner at GVA. She was previously a planner. Cole was seconded to the South East England Development Agency last year.

MOVES: Appointment at Pendle Borough Council

Brian Cookson has joined Pendle Borough Council as executive director for regeneration. He will co-ordinate regeneration and fund-raising and work on the pathfinder initiative. Cookson was previously head of regeneration at Sefton Metropolitan Borough Council, where he led regeneration schemes in Bootle and Southport.

John Vale has joined GL Hearn as a graduate planner in the firm's London Bridge office. He joins form Cardiff University and will work on a range of projects.

Liz Shiel has joined newly-formed consultancy Tribal HCH in Edinburgh as a regeneration director. She joins from DTZ Pieda Consulting, where she directed renewal work in Scotland. Shiel has also worked for local authorities in Durham and Sunderland.

Phil Bonds has been appointed to the urban design team at Broadway Malyan. He has previously worked for Hyder Consulting, Urban Initiatives and Chris Blandford Associates.

MOVES: Appointment at CABE

Paul Finch has been appointed chairman of the regions committee at the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment (CABE). Les Sparks will stand down as chairman of the committee to lead on skills, planning and the historic environment. He will continue to chair the joint CABE and English Heritage urban panel. Ken Shuttleworth will take over from Finch as chairman of the design review committee.

David Campbell has joined the Glasgow office of GL Hearn as an associate planning director. He will work on retail, commercial and housing developments. Graeme Laing has joined as a planner. Campbell and Laing were both previously at the Development Planning Partnership.
