A £4 million fund to help small businesses in the West Midlands has been set up by the Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform. The fund will provide loans of up to £250,000 to small and medium-sized firms in the region that are having trouble accessing finance as a result of the credit crunch. Energy firm BP has appointed developer St Modwen as the preferred developer for a 1,011ha portfolio of brownfield sites across south Wales, Scotland, the Midlands and South-East England. The sites will be predominantly employment-led commercial development, St Modwen said.
